Bloomberg on Hotel Tax, Possibly More Cuts to Firehouses

At this morning’s press conference in Brooklyn, Michael Bloomberg didn’t sound entirely enthusiastic about the idea of increasing the hotel tax–which the City Council is looking to do–but he did leave the door open to considering it.

"I am perfectly cognizant of the detrimental impact that a hotel tax, in theory, has on tourism,” he said. After listing some of those impacts, the mayor said, “but once again, you have to look at everything.”

Bloomberg has opposed the hotel tax in the past.

Bloomberg also said that the additional $1.7 billion in cuts from city agencies that he called for yesterday--which includes the elimination of an entire class of firefighters--may not be enough. “The next cut is firehouses,” Bloomberg said.

So Michael Bloomberg not be

So Michael Bloomberg not be entirely enthusiastic about increasing the hotel tax, but I'm sure if it means more cash flowing into City Hall, he'll summon up some much needed energy to see it through. Maybe some nice weight loss tips might help if he's thinking about cutting the budget to firehouses, as people are gonna need to be slimmer to get out of their places faster if they catch fire - with less firemen working without the money to pay them an all.
