An aide to City Council candidate Julissa Ferraras emailed to say she’s having several fund-raisers between now and January 11th, with a few notable hosts, including State Assemblyman Jose Peralta and City Council members Leroy Comrie, Diana Reyna and Letitia James.
The name-dropping shows some continuity of support among other elected officials despite the now-unhelpful qualification that was once perceived to be Ferraras' biggest strength: her job as chief of staff to Councilman Hiram Monserrate, who is supposed to be leaving the Council for the State Senate.
Monserrate was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
Before that, Ferraras was tied to a non-profit group whose financial relationship with Monserrate has been questioned.
Ferraras is running against Francisco Moya, a local resident, Democratic district leader, and political operative with ties like Democratic County Leader Joe Crowley and Governor David Paterson.
According to the latest campaign finance filings from July, Ferraras has more than $22,000. Moya has a little more than $1,000. Ferreras has said that she went on to raise $35,000.

Carlos Fabara
Democrat for City Council District 21
Hi, I’m Carlos Fabara, I’m the executive producer of QueensNewsRadio.com, and I will use technology to improve government service delivery.
I live in Queens since 1961, and my research indicates everyone wants their elected officials to perform their work honestly, and they want the government to take the people’s preferences into consideration when making the most important decisions. To meet those needs I have developed two mechanisms.
1) To inform the voters correctly, I am webcasting live, recording and archiving my public meetings as a candidate; and as your elected representative I will continue providing real-time transparency and accountability of all my public actions.
2) To know what the majority of the people who live in Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, and Corona want, and just as importantly, what they don’t want, I will authorize the voters to decide which bills being debated in the City Council are most important to them, so the registered voters can approve or reject those bills, and knowing with mathematical precision how the majority of the registered voters want their councilman to vote on a bill in the City Council, I will vote in the City Council the way the majority of registered voters chose.
The same way the taxpayers in Massachusetts have done for 300-years to this day, I will convene TOWN MEETINGS in District 21 at a different public school each month, the constituents will be able to participate in-person, by email, by telephone or by webcam in the town meetings. After obtaining a user name and password at our district office, registered voters will not only be able to see the Town Meetings on the Web, or listen to them on their cell-phones like others who are interested in the civic life of their community, they will even be able to vote on bills from home if that’s more convenient. Why waste a token, travel time and energy, if you can participate in a meeting online?
Education is my number one priority, because education is the key to a better society. That’s why I will fight to build better schools and update the existing schools. That’s why I will work to reduce the number of students in each classroom, and that’s why I will increase teacher salaries. Is society upside down when the MTA workers who sweep the subways earn more than a teacher? And I will also travel to Albany to block tuition increases and budget cuts to the CUNY and SUNY systems, because that is where are leaders are coming from.
As your councilman I will fight for universal health care. I will demand the City of New York build, renovate, and subsidize more affordable housing units. I will demand the City of New York provide quality child care; and improve our senior centers. And I will work closely with the NYPD to make Queens the city’s safest community in America.
