Here’s video of former city official Tom Curitore, on Saturday, officially announcing his candidacy for the City Council seat on Staten Island being vacated by Representative-elect Michael McMahon.
Curitore was a police officer and later a first deputy commissioner in the Bloomberg administration.
“With the current economic climate, we have no time to waste on a councilman who needs on-the-job-training,” Curitore says.
Among the half dozen other candidates running for the seat are McMahon’s former chief of staff, Ken Mitchell, who picked up the support of the local fireman’s union.
Petitioning to get on the ballot in this race, and two other special elections for Council seats in Queens, began on January 3. The election will be held on February 24.
