Dadey to Yassky: 'You're Trying to Have it Both Ways'

"You're trying to have it both ways," said Citizens Union executive director Dick Dadey to Councilman Councilman David Yassky.

He was talking about Yassky's amendment to the term-limits bill, which would have required the measure to go to a voter referendum in the future, even if the bill was passed by the Council.

Yassky's amendment was voted down just before the legislation was approved. Yassky voted in favor.

They were speaking in the rotunda inside City Hall, with Lew Fidler nearby. Dadey said Fidler's vote to extend term limits was a vote of conscience, since Fidler has long opposed term limits.

"It's not hypocritical," Yassky said in response to Dadey. Then the three walked out of earshot.
