Charlie Rangel just arrived at an elementary school on 134th Street in Harlem to vote, and walked to the end of a line that already had more than 200 voters, saying, "This is beautiful. This is exciting. Who would have thought it?"

Rangel, wearing a black overcoat, yellow tie and with The New York Times tucked under his arm, said, "I've never seen anything like this."

When I asked if he had any doubt about Barack Obama's chances today, Rangel said, "No, no. He's ahead in almost every poll."

Rangel, with his hands in his pocket, stood on line with his wife, Alma, an early Obama supporter.

"Those Europeans never thought the slaves would be in charge," Rangel was heard telling the young woman in front of him.
