Here’s Bill Thompson at a town hall meeting in Brooklyn on Sunday, saying that Michael Bloomberg isn't the only one trying to “hijack” Democracy by changing term limits.
“What’s happening now is out-and-out threats and coercion,” Thompson said. “And not just by the mayor’s people, but by the Speaker’s people also.”
That would be City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who announced her support of the bill before last week's public hearings.
Thompson spoke at length about City Hall's strategy of reaching out to nonprofit groups - which rely on public and private funding - to contact City Council members to urge them to support the term-limits bill.
