Un-Term-Limited Gioia to Run for Public Advocate Anyway

I caught up with Eric Gioia outside City Hall this morning, after he led a demonstration about affordable housing in his district.

Now that term limits have been pushed back, I asked him if he would seek re-election to his Council seat or, as he had planned, run for higher office.

Gioia laughed and said it was an interesting question since, technically, he hadn't officially declared he was running for higher office.

An aide standing next to him was more direct, and said that yes, the campaign for public advocate was continuing.

The current public advocate, Betsy Gotbaum, has signaled that she would consider seeking another four years in office if term limits were extended.
